This piece was composed between January and March of 1996. When I began creating and collecting sounds for Iridescence, I was specifically interested in audio that could be manipulated over time. Sounds that had potential for real time change in their sonic color, providing a canvas of interplay for shifting sounds. This was achieved by assigning the aftertouch and pitch bend functions of each sound to various envelopes and filters. The result became a more dynamic and expressive sound. Near the beginning of this piece a brass-like sound is introduced that quickly increases in amplitude. This sound was applied to Sound Designer's digital signal processors which, in turn, stretched, compressed, and equalized the original brass sound into entirely new sonic textures. The birth of these new sounds makes up a major portion of the last section of this music.
