about

The text for The Addict was taken from the 1962 U.S. Supreme Court decision in the Robinson v. California case. It has been slightly adapted, embellished, and edited by the composer. The text describes the long-term effects of heroin use. The concept was to keep the entire text understandable but yet at the same time altered. This idea represents the drug addict, a person who is fully intact but nonetheless some of the details have been altered. Reality becomes hazy and blurred. Every sound for this piece was taken from the original reading of the
text by Ann Michael.
